More Adventures in Oaxaca, on Mushroom Mountain.

Hello Big Souls,
Come join me on the final stretch of my three-week Oaxaca adventure! It was full of surprises, especially our journey to Mushroom Mountain where we had a ceremony scheduled.
Before I arrived in Oaxaca, I read about a famous traditional healing center called Tierra Sagrada. I was intrigued, so I asked Hector to helped me book a session a few days before we left for Mushroom Mountain.
This was a truly unique experience that left a lasting impression on me, so I’ll share some of it with you…
Hector told me to meet a woman named Ines Curandera at a market called Mercado Sanchez. I took a taxi and it was a cute little market with Mom & Pop vendors, but much smaller than the one downtown. I knew who she was when I first saw her, she was dressed in white.

She was soft spoken, and luckily she speaks English. She led me to a booth where a woman handed her two baskets with a bunch of fresh herbs and flowers in each basket. Mmm, the smell was amazing!
She introduced the woman behind the booth as an herbalist who had five generations of knowledge passed down to her. She knew all the plants and herbs in Mexico and how to use them. Wow! I was really impressed.
Ines drove us out of the city, up a really steep hill. We arrived at the top of the hill to her outdoor healing center. The view was spectacular. I had no idea what to expect but I loved the energy of the place and I had set my intention.
She invited me to sit. She handed me a big bowl with all the herbs and flowers she had brought for my ceremony. She asked me to break off all the flower petals and leaves while she was working over the fire. Afterwards, she came over to me really excited and told me the fire had delivered a message for me.
I dressed down for the ceremony and she did some very beautiful rituals in Spanish and some in English. She explained what she was doing and it was exactly what I needed even though I had never mentioned it to her. I felt it was the perfect experience for me and well worth the money, It was very loving, private, and powerful.

When Hector was planning our trip, I mentioned that I’d love to stay in a cozy cabin in the mountains. He was thrilled to take me to visit the famous Mushroom Mountain. I soon learned why!
Apparently, it’s a popular spot for a Mushroom Conference. They invite experts, vendors, and travelers come from all over the globe. He said hundreds of people show up. No wonder everyone knows about Oaxaca! Hector said Oaxaca is one of the poorest cities in Mexico, so it really boosts their economy.

It wasn’t the time of year for the conference, but it was a lovely four-hour drive up the mountains.
Our first night on Mushroom Mountain, we checked into our cabins. They were super cozy because each of us had our own fireplace stacked with wood and a starter all ready for us. Hector got my fire started before he went to his cabin. I loved the nightly ritual of lying there watching the fire dance the night away.
The next day was our big day for the plant ceremony. But guess what? The mushrooms didn’t deliver! Who knows why? I was a bit surprised by how different it was from what I was used to. They said it wasn’t the right season for mushrooms. It’s actually winter there!

On our second night on Mushroom Mountain, Hector surprised me with a delightful experience at a Spanish restaurant that served wine and tapas. It was an adventure just getting there! We had a bit of a challenge finding it because it’s tucked away high up a winding, rocky, one-lane dirt road. As we drove, Hector mentioned that they raise their own pigs and cure their own prosciutto—how fascinating!
After navigating up that daunting road and still not spotting the restaurant, we decided to stop and ask for directions. They told us in Spanish, “You’ve passed it! Look for the house with pigs roaming the yard.” So, with Hector’s excellent driving skills, we carefully turned around. Sure enough, we soon spotted the pigs and stopped in our tracks!
This was such an exciting adventure into the unknown. What was I getting myself into? As a former restaurant owner, my curiosity and intrigue were piqued even more as we walked up to what seemed like a house, not a restaurant.

We walked inside and saw a fairly well-dressed man in a hat and black shirt and pants. He led us to a huge table and asked if we wanted wine with our food.
With tapas? Of course!
He came over to our side of the table holding a fancy decanter with a special thin spout to pour a gentle amount of wine into our mouth. That’s how you traditionally approve the wine selection. He approached us with the spout, we looked at each other and smiled, tilted our heads back as he poured the perfect amount of wine in our mouth to taste. We nodded yes, and he poured each of us a glass. It was amazing wine!
Meanwhile, he stood at the end of the table slicing the prosciutto. Another man was busy preparing several more tapas dishes.

Hector and I had an incredible time that night. It was such a unique experience to step into that cozy ambiance and delicious food and service in the heart of the city.
Hector told me that it all started with a woman from Spain who had a dream of bringing a piece of Spain to Oaxaca. It’s the perfect spot for the Mushroom Mountain conferences. It’s amazing how much we can achieve when we stick to our dreams.
We drove back for one last night in Oaxaca. Hector has been an incredible tour guide. I highly recommend hiring him for any trip, even a short one. He’s super knowledgeable and took care of everything I needed, including where to stay based on what kind of experience you’re looking for.

On my last night in Oaxaca, Hector showed me a super cool part of town. It was like a magical place full of whimsy and fun. We found this awesome restaurant and met some friends from the Family Constellations that I had the pleasure of meeting.

Thanks a bunch for joining me on this trip! I hope you had a blast and got a taste of what it’s like there. I might even host an event there sometime soon, we’ll see what the future holds!
Much love and Compassion

I am writing to let you know that it looks like the court matter involving my oldest son will be resolved in the best case scenario thanks to the constellation that you did for us. As you know my son had been charged with a very serious crime of which he was innocent. For over a year we have been living in this twilight zone hell waiting to see what the DA’s office was going to do. When they actually ended up charging him it just made the nightmare worse. After talking to you Shauna, I decided to come to the constellation and you and everyone else were so welcoming and it was an amazing experience. The big thing to remember from the constellation for me was how the “judge” was upset about the decisions he was always having to make and that is exactly what showed up. In this case he is finally going to make the right decision and dismiss the case.
Thank you Shauna for everything you do!!
